Hello and happy new year, everyone! I hope you had a great start to the new year, and are transitioning into 2019 just fine. At the dawn of any new year, resolutions seem to be the topic on everyone’s minds. And while I have to admit I’m pretty bad at sticking to them, it doesn’t stop me from writing a list every single year! I always think of myself as a work in progress, so it’s nice to sit down and set goals every once in a while.

In 2018, I got quite busy with work commitments. And while I do enjoy my job, in the process I think I lost a lot of ‘me time’. For me at least, my hobbies and the things I create make up a huge part of who I am. So most of these resolutions are focused on taking that back:

1. Blog once a week.

Yikes, now that I’m putting this out into the world I have to commit! Last year, I definitely didn’t blog as often as I would’ve liked. It makes me sad too, because I’ve always thought this space has untapped potential, if only I worked harder on it! It’s going to be a challenge, but I really do hope I’ll have 52 posts to show for it at the end of the year.

2. Pick up more offline hobbies.

Recently Instagram has started tracking activity, and the stats shocked me. Maybe it’s because I’m on holiday mode, but lately I’ve been averaging over three hours on Instagram daily! I already know I spend a lot of time online, but three hours is a sizeable chunk of my day spent staring at a screen. Anyway, this year I’m resolving to find more hobbies that don’t involve tech. Painting, film photography, cooking… even going outside for a walk would suffice.

3. Buy less, and start sewing more.

This kind of ties into my last goal, but I’d like to start sewing more! I tried my hand at some alterations over the holidays, and they actually turned out quite well. Now I’m hoping to repurpose more things in my closet, rather than buying new items for a quick fix.

4. Make the most of my days off.

I’m the type of person who falls into a rut easily. And at some point last year, my entire routine became a cycle of work, eat, sleep, and repeat. Even now, I don’t really know what to tell people when they ask what I get up to on weekends! So this year, I’m making an effort to get out more. Catch up with friends, go somewhere I’ve never been. Anything that will break up my routine and get me out of the house will do, really!

5. Wear glasses more often.

I bought yet another pair of glasses in Japan, so I should probably get some use out of them! While I wear contacts most of the time, it’s just not good for my eyes. And when you stare at a screen all day like I do, it’s the perfect recipe for dry eyes. Anyway, this change will be pretty amusing. A lot of the people in my life have no idea I even need glasses!

Since I already have my 25 by 25 list going on, none of these resolutions are too out there. I’ve actually ticked off quite a few things, so I might make an update on it soon. Anyway, are you a believer of new year resolutions? Let me know what yours are, if you have any!
