everyday essentials

I have to admit, a year or two ago I could hardly say that I knew anything about makeup. Save for a couple of things that I pinched from my mum’s collection, I didn’t have many products at all, and would rather spend my hard-earned cash on books and food! However, the more I delve into the wonderful world of beauty blogs and Youtube channels, I’ve gotten into that dangerous cycle of wanting a certain product… then the next one… and so on. While I don’t think I’ve reached product junkie status yet, there are definitely some makeup items that I can’t live without (going clockwise from the left):

Designer Brands 9 Mineral Eye Shadow Palette – To be honest, I’ve never been a big collector of eye shadow. Even here, the three neutrals on the right are the only shades that I regularly dip into! This palette’s getting a bit gross now that I think about it, but it’s versatile and gets the job done.

Maybelline Baby Lips Loves Color Lipcare in Pink Lolita – Just the latest addition to my collection of lip balms, which even I have to admit is getting a tad excessive! This balm does exactly what it claims to, and moisturises whilst leaving behind the subtlest hint of pink.

Models Prefer Retractable Eyebrow Pencil – This thing is sold out nearly every time I visit my local Priceline, so I guess that’s saying something! I used to fiddle with eyebrow powders and the like, but this is a cheap and cheerful solution that gets the job done in one sleek package.

Urban Decay Primer Potion – This stuff has cult status for a reason, and I can definitely see the difference in vibrancy whenever I apply it underneath my eyeshadow! The only downside is that it’s unavailable locally, and I actually bought it from Sephora in Singapore. Australia really needs to get its act together and bring Urban Decay down here already…

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation – Again, every beauty blogger and their mum has raved about this foundation, but not without good reason! While the foundation has pretty light coverage, it just looks amazing and glides over the skin effortlessly. Plus, the end result doesn’t leave dry patches and never looks cakey.

Australis 10 Hour Wear Eye Pencil in Bombastic Bronze – I couldn’t not throw this into the mix, mainly because it’s just so easy. In fact, lately I’ve been skipping the eyeshadow because it’s so fiddly in comparison to whacking this onto my eyelids!

La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Melt-in Cream – I stocked up on this overseas, but now they’ve finally brought the brand to Priceline. It goes without saying that sun protection’s important, even more so for me since my skin’s quite photosensitive! This one’s SPF50+ and recommended for people with sun allergies, so if it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for me.

Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream – Another addition to the lip balm collection… need I say more?

Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer – It’s a bit pricey, but considering this primer has lasted me such a long time I’d say it’s definitely worth the investment. I find that it provides a good base for foundation, and doesn’t feel like it’s clogging my pores like other primers tend to.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara – The waterproof version holds a curl on my impossibly straight Asian lashes, which is saying a lot! The only downside is that it’s a bit of a pain to remove and often leaves me with panda eyes, so any makeup remover suggestions are welcome.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic – I’ve already raved about these lip stains multiple times, so I’ll spare you just this once! Needless to say, I’ve got a bit of a collection going on and should probably start restraining myself…

So, that’s about it for my makeup essentials! To be perfectly honest, I’m the type of person that rarely changes face products, but I regularly stock up on cheap thrills like nail polish and lip products, since I feel like those things are the most interchangeable with my mood. Priorities, right? Anyway, I hope you’re having a great week!
